FREE New Year’s Eve Night Fun Run! Chico California Park Neighborhood
December 31st, 2011 Categories: California Park Neighborhood
Sponsored by Under The Sun Events!
Join us on Saturday, December 31 at 5 p.m. for a free fun run in California Park. We are meeting in the parking lot of the California Park Pavilion on California Park Drive. The course is 3 (or so) miles – just enough to get your New Year’s Eve Night started on the right foot! We will serve coffee and sparkling cider at the finish. We are also pleased to provide chip timing! Bring your headlamps and festive spirit!
Fine print: This event is a free, fun run and is not supported (no aid stations on the course). The roads are NOT closed to traffic so runners must obey all traffic laws. Even though the run will be timed, it is not a competition! There are no awards – just a fun night out with some fellow runners. We hope to see you there!
The course: Runners/walkers begin in the parking lot of the California Park Pavilion and will run up California Park Drive and turn right on Yosemite. Participants will turn right at the roundabout at Idyllwild Circle. They will follow Idyllwild Circle all the way around and turn left on Yosemite. They will then turn left on California Park Drive and make their way back to the parking lot at the California Park Pavilion.
Registration/Check-in: There is no need to pre-register! Just sign up at the run. We will have registration from 4-4:45 p.m.

|Chico Fire June 11, 2008.
June 11th, 2008 Categories: California Park Neighborhood, Chico CA Real Estate News
On a normal day, I will always choose to work at home, rather than at my office. I just get more done that way.
Serene though it may seem, I only use my office when I have to meet clients. There’s just too much going on to get anything done! In addition to my own phone ringing off the hook, there are several other lines jangling along with the fax machine. The front door is constantly beeping from people coming and going, and someone always wants to come in, sit down, and chat. (Love it… I just have work to do!) Alternatively, when no one else is in the office, I find myself gazing out at the lake instead of tackling my to-do list.
Today the distractions were so unbelievable I couldn’t wait to run home. Work was all but abandoned as I sat at my desk with my jaw dropped. My reasons for wanting to get home, however, were not for the petty reason of wanting to get more work done. Phone calls, faxes, files and foreclosures suddenly became the least important thing in the world.
I wanted to get home to hold my family close, and ensure their safety.
Fire season hit the greater Chico area hard today.
The noise from the winds, sirens, and aircraft was unreal in the California Park neighborhood. The helicopters were using the reserves from the lakes to help squelch the rapidly progressing “Humboldt Fire.” Needless to say, I was not battling the normal distractions today. Because my office sits just feet from the lake, I had a front row view of the incredible job the pilots were performing.
The following photos were taken from my desk. To give you an idea of how close the helicopter was… my zoom lens is only 105mm! (Not very good!) The pilots swooped in on the left side of the building, dunked the bucket, and turned around to leave on the right side of the building.
As of this writing, the Humboldt Fire is said to have burned about 3500 acres since 12:00 today, and forced 1000 people to evacuate their homes. The fire began somewhere between Hwy 32 and East 20th, and is now being battled near Neal Road and Skyway in lower Paradise, CA. Click for a map of the fire, burned area, and evacuated areas.
Governor Schwartzenegger has declared a state of emergency for Butte County.

My prayers and thanks go out to the many men and women out fighting the fire for the sake of the Chico and Paradise communities. I have only the highest regard for the unbelievably difficult and treacherous job they face. After watching them in action today, I have a whole new appreciation for the reality of their “work day.”
Likewise, my heart goes out to the families that have been forced from their homes.
At the end of a day like this, we are reminded of the things that are really important.

|Sycamore Beach Park in Chico, CA
November 2nd, 2007 Categories: California Park Neighborhood, Chico California Photos
I just couldn’t resist stopping at Sycamore Beach Park yesterday to get this picture. I was driving through the California Park neighborhood in Chico, CA to preview a new listing. (It should be a nice Chico foreclosure property if you’ve been watching for something in this area! Drop me a note, and I will be sure to let you know when it hits the market.)Let me get back on track… Sycamore Beach Park is one of several beautiful park areas located in the California Park neighborhood. There are three green areas located on Idyllwild Drive alone! The Sycamore Beach Park is one of my favorites because of the large grassy area and gorgeous view of California Park Lake. The area is usually wide open- you feel like you have the whole place to yourself!Be sure to stop by and enjoy the fall colors reflecting in the lake… they won’t last much longer!More on the California Park neighborhood:The View from a Canoe- California Park in Chico, CA

|The View from a Canoe- California Park in Chico, CA

Take a ride with me!
The California Park residential neighborhood is the only one in Chico, CA that boasts lake frontage.
Truly, the view from the water is unlike anything you will see from the road!
The first time we put our canoe in the water, we were in awe of the variety of home styles: we saw everything from “southern charm” to “ultra modern.” Each back yard had something different to offer. There were private boat docks, a sand beach, hammocks, landscaped terraces, gorgeous waterfalls, weeping willows, and my all time favorite: bright red canoes!
If you have the opportunity to visit the California Park area, a tour from the lake is a fun way to explore. (Note: The lakes are private. You must actually be a resident or guest.) There are 2 lakes, and two of them connect under a bridge on Lakewest Drive. There are several idyllic coves in which you will find residents enjoying the lifestyle unique to Cal Park. You might wave hello to a grandpa teaching his grandson to fish, view one of several large, grassy park areas, or (if you are REALLY lucky) spot one of the turtles that calls the lake home.
The neighborhood also boasts a series of cascading duck ponds which delight young and old alike. It is such a treat to visit the lakes in time to watch the baby ducks! There are usually families that include lots of fluffy babies, all chasing after the mama duck. The lake is shallow enough in many places to view the fish swimming below. And, if you’re paying attention, you can hear the tell-tale “ker-plop!” of a bullfrog jumping in the blue-green water!
