“Ready, Set, Bag!” premieres at The Pageant Theatre
January 9th, 2010 categories: Fun Things To Do Near Chico CA!, Uncategorized
My family just had the pleasure of previewing the film “Ready, Set, Bag!” It is a documentary that follows eight grocery bagging champions from states across the US as they prepare to compete in the National Grocers Association’s Best Bagger competition in Las Vegas. I won’t lie. My kids, upon hearing the words “documentary”, both chimed in with the requisite moans and groans. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a pair that is normally entertained by the likes of “Wizards of Waverly Place” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”

However, once the show started, my kids were riveted. There’s something about the hometown characters that makes it hard to look away. Initially, they may have been intrigued by the drawl and awe-inspring snort of the young band member that inhabited a pink bedroom. Or it may have had something to do with the really fast kid with the red curls. They wondered aloud how the older lady that “might even be a grandma” could compete with the younger participants. Eventually, I think they were inspired by a diverse group of characters who all had one thing in common: they take pride in doing their job to the very best of their ability!
The film helps drive home the point that every job is a critical one. I will make sure that we watch it again, and would readily recommend “Ready, Set, Bag!” for families. If you need a little inspiration to get you through the day to day drudgery of your own job, this might help!
The movie will be playing every Thursday night in January (Jan 7, Jan 14, Jan 21, Jan 28) at 5:30pm at the Pageant Theater. The screenings benefit the local community food bank CAA Butte County.
For every ticket sold, local company ChicoBag will generously donate $1 to the CAA Butte County Food Bank! If folks bring two or more nonperishable food items
to a screening, they’ll get $1 off their ticket thanks to ChicoBag, and a discount on popcorn too.
You can see the trailer for this film at http://www.readysetbag.com.
Be sure to arrive on time so you don’t miss the screening of ”Leonardo”, a new hand drawn animated short from Academy Award nominee Jim Capobianco, in front of “Ready, Set, Bag!”. As an added bonus, after the screenings, there will be a “Ready, Set, Bag!” Q/A session with the Directors and Producer.
Have you seen the film? Leave a review!

About Donna Padula
December 9th, 2009 categories: Uncategorized
I have been a Real Estate professional sense 1980. Soon after obtaining my Bachelors degree in business from CSUC, I decided to use my knowledge in helping people to realize the American dream.
I have worked in the the North Valley , with experience and knowledge of Butte, Glenn and Tehama Counties. My experience goes beyond helping people buy and sell Real Estate. Through out the years the privilege has been mine, belonging to several service organizations. Including past director for the Paradise Board of Realtors for 2 terms.
I enjoy volunteering in hope to give back to our community by sharing time at the Jesus Center and Catholic Ladies Relief Society, both located in Butte Co. I also enjoy riding and training my horses along with my husband Glenn at our small ranchette just east of Chico.
My greatest reward is a referral from a happy client. I look forward to offering continued professional service. I look forward to helping you soon!

Shadow Inventory Leading to a New Housing Crash?
September 28th, 2009 categories: Uncategorized
We’ve been hearing some sunny reports as of late regarding the state of the housing market. Many sources are adamant that we have “hit bottom” and that the foreclosures will not be flooding in as expected.
Of course, there are always two sides to every story. In this case, there are those market watchers who believe that there is a “shadow inventory” of homes in foreclosure that are looming and threatening to crash the market once again.
From my limited perspective, here in small Chico, CA, I am tempted to lean towards the side that says there is more to come. As a consultant for many lenders, I have witnessed first hand the efforts the banks and government are extending to distressed homeowners. There are many loan modification programs in place designed to facilitate homeowners in retaining their properties. Unfortunately, I’ve seen very few cases the programs actually worked to make that happen! More often than not, the lender and homeowner go through the motions of the paperwork, only to find that the loan modification program still doesn’t solve the homeowners problems.
Essentially, all the time and effort involved to retain home ownership for many people has only served to postpone the inevitable process of foreclosure.

No power, no water, no cable… but what a view!
September 14th, 2009 categories: Uncategorized
I had no idea what we were in for when my husband, kids and I packed into the car to go check on my new listing.
After 4 miles on a gravel road and countless “NO TRESPASSING” signs, we finally happened upon the deal of the day: A 20 acre parcel with views of Lake Oroville. Also included was an unusual home built into the side of the hill. If you’re looking for a very private, rustic getaway far, FAR away from the rest of the world, this might be just right!

Longs Drug Store opens, Terrace Pharmacy closes.
November 4th, 2007 categories: Uncategorized
There is a new kid on the block (East Avenue, anyway): Longs Drug Store.
Located on the corner of East Avenue and Marigold, it will be a convenient stop for the Chico neighborhoods that line either side of East. The new store features a drive through pick up window, beer and wine, and a selection of grocery items. Of course shoppers will still find the pharmaceutical items and general merchandise associated with Longs Drug. The opening of the new store was a bittersweet event for longtime local residents. The opening brought about the closing of Terrace Pharmacy, which began serving customers in 1957. Terrace also collected PG&E payments and served as a U.S. Postal Substation over the years. Fortunately, many of Terrace’s employees can be found at the new Longs Drug, and customers can still enjoy the tradition of home delivery service offered by Terrace.
